About Us

Brattleboro Union High School and the Windham Regional Career Center work together to offer the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) Academy which is designed to provide students extended academic and studio experiences in digital art, theater art, visual arts, or the musical arts.

The VPA Academy is designed for students seeking a rigorous and rewarding program in the Visual and Performing Arts. Membership in the VPA Academy also requires that you complete other required high school courses, elective course work, and document attendance at seminars/field experiences or community based education locations during your high school career.

VPA Academy Graduate Profile

Katy Friesen, Graduate Class of 2019
Visual Arts: Concentration in Ceramics
Attending Bennington College

"My work is a play of different mediums, techniques, and ideas coming together to form one unified piece. I take in what surrounds me, noticing details, textures, and patterns as a base for inspiration. My two internships this semester contributed hugely to the idea of following art as a career. Thanks to the VPA academy and the wonderful art department at the school, I have discovered so much about myself."

VPA Academy Graduate Profile

Mycroft Stone, Graduate Class of 2019
Digital Arts: Filmmaking and Communications concentration
Attending Norwich University of the Arts in England, majoring in Visual Effects

"The VPA Academy taught me nearly everything I know about filmmaking and the careers in the field of filmmaking. Now when I watch films recreationally, I have a hard time not taking the knowledge that my classes have given to me and applying it to the movie, seeing what techniques they used when making each scene. I don't regret taking a single class in my field during high school. The classes let me have more of a hands-on experience, which is one way that I learn well. I am very glad that I chose to go through high school enrolled in the VPA Academy."
